My three legged Blessing.....

A story about a special dog, Kiya.  She is a Black Labrador.

Her story began when she was a little puppy. Her owner just moved into an apartment and couldn’t have a black lab puppy, so my brother took the puppy and brought it home “promising that is was temporary stay”. You heard that before, right? Just as soon as Kiya arrived she got Parvo, this is a very horrible desies for dogs. My dad was faithful to dip her in medication, but she was in terrible condition and my parents thought for sure she wasn’t going to make it. She survived and recovered fully. It was amazing! She is the sweetest dog in our family.

When I was adopted I adopted a golden retriever, her name was Kelly. One day I came home from a camp finding my Kelly passed away. I was completely in tears, she slept with me beside my bed, and now she’s gone. As I cried over Kelly, Kiya jumped on my bed and became my new friend. She became my dog, that slept beside my bed, and that I grew to love her very much. In 2010 Kiya started to limp, lifting her right leg and hardly stepping on it. That of course didn’t stop her from running at 40 miles per hour at the tennis ball that was thrown to her. She was still happy but we worried. We took her to the vet; they took X-ray’s but nothing showed up; her leg seemed normal. Her limp didn’t go away so we made an appointment with a specialist. The doctor examined her leg and took blood samples. A week later we came back for the results. He told us that she had cancer. To save her from that cancer spreading we had to amputate her leg. The doctor also said that this kind of cancer is very aggressive and she had 10% survival. I couldn’t believe it! She started to get in pain before the doctor appointment and whining. We couldn’t let her suffer. She went in to get her leg amputated. It was hard, she wouldn’t be the same. After a day of surgery she came home the next day. A three legged dog. She was confused and had some trouble Laing down without the support of her missing leg. The doctor didn’t give us much hope that she was going to live longer. He said 2-3 months. My whole family cried for they all loved Kiya very much. We decided the best thing for her if she started to get in pain again we had to put her down. We all sat down and prayed for Kiya, that she would live longer. She started to adapt to her three legs and ran like lightning and hopped around the house. We continued to pray for her.  Last month, it was her 1-year anniversary or survival! I’m thankful for Kiya and is my furry friend God has gave me. She is healthy and continues to run for that tennis balls. I wanted to share this story with you because it’s a miracle, God saved her. Nothing is impossible with God.  She is my three legged blessing.
